Now concerning spiritual gifts (or, perhaps better "matters pertaining to the Spirit") I would not have you ignorant.

The Personality of the Holy Spirit

Surely there is a convincing argument in John 14-16. Yes for me thats fine. We do need to deepen our conviction by adding reinforcements. That is the purpose of this study.

February...

After having had a good start to the year we have come into February with a great sense of anticipation.  This Sunday sees us welcoming in more new folk.  Wow so soon...  Its been wonderful to see such rapid expansion on all fronts.

The 'God Art People' (GAP) Moment was an absolute winner in terms of moving into a far more colourful style of worship.  Well done to Mike Edwards and his team.  Many of us felt that church worship would be like this in the future.  If anything our 'arty' types are fully pumped for the next one.  God has given NCCB amazingly gifted folk.

A slow death through intimidation
Sunday nights talk (24th January 2010) seemed to have been well received judging from the response from all those who attended. I have found the series on leadership easy to preach.  The “post preach” moments have been taken up with folk asking for more detail and several have even requested a copy of my notes. For a preacher who doesn’t preach by degrees this is amusing. What do I give them? It all makes sense to me, but my squiggels and coloured markings defy good college homeletics. Immigration officials who make no eye contact  and while confident to speak to thousands, yet before them I manage to become dry mouthed and unsettled. Finding a decent spot to sit and wait until called can be a challenge in itself. Well thats all reason enough to find a little refuge in an airport book store. During one of my airport nasties I spent some soul recovery time paging through someone’s book on ideas.

Ever since FIFA announced that South Africa was to host their next world cup extravaganza, 2010 has been eagerly anticipated. For a nation that has struggled through transition and enjoyed baton changes from one group to another, the immediate future offers additional opportunities for "Nation Building" like never before. The signs are there for every shrewd entrepreneur to enjoy a brief steroid jab of economic proportions.

“On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit , and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet , which said : “ Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches:” Clearly for John this was a day of divine appointment.  His response is noted later...’I fell at His feet as though dead ’.Not surprising is it? How do we respond when God speaks? Samuel sets a fine example of sensitive listening. Well God still speaks and will speak in a way that is clear to the hearer.
